The region elects two male members of the National Assembly of Pakistan (MNAs), one female MNA, seven male members of the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (MPAs) and two female MPAs. In the 2002 National and Provincial elections, the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, an alliance of religious political parties, won all the seats amidst a wave of anti-Americanism that spread after the United States' invasion of Afghanistan. In General Election (GE) 2008, Awaami National Party (ANP) claimed to bring peace and all the National and Provincial assembly seats in Swat. ANP tried their best but was unable to cope with the situation as the law and order situation was worse. It was one of the major reasons that in GE 2013 the people of swat denied to vote for ANP, This time peoples of the swat voted for a new party i.e. Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf who claim was to bring a NEW PAKISTAN (Naya Pakistan).
